The concept of warehouse districts from the 1970s.

When looking for ways to effectively implement logistics centers in Poland, we often refer to examples from other countries that are successfully implementing programs for the construction of these centers. Their implementation began in various years, and their origins often date back to times when the term logistics was not yet in common use. Speaking about the development of logistics in Poland, we place the beginning of its intensive growth in the not-too-distant past, that is, the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. Perhaps it is worth getting acquainted with the earlier achievements of logistics – even if its name was not yet popular – using the example of integrated warehouse districts designed in Poland in the 1970s.
In 1976, the then Central Center for Warehouse Management based
in Poznań developed the “Concept of a warehouse district for the Poznań agglomeration,” which at that time was a modern, model solution of the nature of today’s logistics center. The concept assumed the concentration of warehouse activities in a location providing access to the agglomeration’s road infrastructure, taking into account the impact of concentrated warehouse and distribution activities on the operation of enterprises and other spheres of city functioning.
