Student Logistics Scientific Circles

We present to you one of the first and most up-to-date lists in Poland of student logistics scientific circles currently operating at universities in our country. All information, especially regarding contact details and personal data, was verified by the Author in March of this year, as it turned out that a certain number of circles do not update them on their websites or in other media. The intention of the editorial team was to organize knowledge on this subject and present it in a synthetic form to all interested parties. Of course, it may happen that other student logistics scientific circles are currently being established or already exist that were not included in this list. In such cases, please contact the Author to supplement this information.

Scientific circles bring students together for scientific and self-educational purposes. They function as registered groups, although they do not have legal personality, nor do they have their own tax identification number (NIP), statistical number (REGON), etc. They operate based on the Law on Higher Education, according to the University Statute and their own regulations. Scientific circles are therefore an internal body of the university, which is fully responsible for them. Every higher education institution, whether public or private, has many scientific circles within its structures. It happens that two or three circles related to the same field of knowledge operate within one university. Why does this happen?

The role of academic scientific circle activities in education
The activity of scientific circles fosters integration not only within a faculty or university but also on a broader, inter-university scale. Cooperation between young scientists provides an opportunity to confront one’s own knowledge with the achievements of other universities. Academic scientific circles provide an opportunity to independently conduct research and analysis, participate in meetings with prominent people, workshops, symposia, and scientific conferences, and—importantly—to organize them. Working on the organization of events such as readings, lectures, and conferences requires great commitment and input from students, but it also provides a lot of satisfaction. Seeking sponsors and cooperating with the media allow young people to gather valuable experience and establish interesting contacts. Activity in a student scientific circle enables meeting interesting people, often enthusiasts, and also facilitates participation in interesting training sessions and trips. Contacts with various companies using knowledge in practice, observing their functioning up close, and finally student internships—all this brings students rich experience and allows them to achieve many other benefits, which would not be possible through passive participation in university classes alone. Furthermore, which is very important, the information contained in a university graduate’s CV about their activity in student organizations, completed internships, and placements is a clear signal to the employer that the candidate possesses broader knowledge than the average student, can boast managerial skills, knows how to establish contacts and present their ideas, and therefore is worth hiring.

Student scientific circles in academic logistics environments
There are over 30 student logistics scientific circles operating at universities in Poland. In recent years, significant efforts by their members to establish inter-university cooperation can be observed. Worth noting are student logistics meetings: the Young Transport and Logistics Forum (organized by students of the Faculty of Management and Economics of Services at the University of Szczecin), the Young Logistics Forum (organized by the Student Circle of Applied Logistics at the Faculty of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology), and Transport Day (organized by the Student Scientific Circle of Transport, Forwarding, and Logistics of the Warsaw School of Economics). Logistics students involved in scientific circles have established a joint website called the Forum of Student Scientific Circles of Transport, Forwarding, and Logistics. (
