Polish standards in logistics

In issue 1/2003 of “Logistyka” we began a series of articles related to standardization in supply chains. We will dedicate them to, among other things, general issues related to standardization in view of the entry into force on January 1, 2003, of the new Act on Standardization of September 12, 2002 (Journal of Laws No. 169 of 2002, item 1386) and in terms of certification before Poland’s accession to the European Union.
According to the new act, the national organizational unit is the Polish Committee for Standardization (PKN), which will continue to be a state organizational unit, a budgetary unit, operating on the basis of a statute granted by way of an ordinance of the Prime Minister. The goals and principles of operation of the PKN in the new organizational structure were presented in issue 1/2003 of “Logistyka”.
The second article in this series will concern the new organizational structure at the PKN.

End of the activities of Standardization Problem Commissions after the entry into force of the new Act on Standardization.
In accordance with the new act on standardization, Technical Committees (TC) have been established in place of the Standardization Problem Commissions, realizing statutory goals related to, among other things, the development and implementation of European standards (EN), Polish Standards (PN), and other standardization documents within their assigned scope.
The general provisions resulting from the act state that a Technical Committee is:
1. a collegiate body operating at the PKN, appointed by the President of the PKN to conduct standardization work in its assigned thematic scope.
2. realizing the goals listed in Art. 3 of the act through the development of standards and other standardization documents in their assigned thematic scopes, including through the participation of their representatives in the work of regional and international standardization organizations.
3. operating through working groups (WG) appointed by the chairman according to the principles defined in PKN Methodological Guidelines No. 5.
4. in justified cases, operating through subcommittees (SC) appointed by the chairman from among the members of the TC, after obtaining the approval of the director of the Standardization Teams (ST).
The article comes from the magazine “Logistyka” 2003/5.
