Macquarie Goodman builds a warehouse for NYK Logistics in Toruń

Macquarie Goodman Group, an integrated industrial property group listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, began construction of its third warehouse for NYK Logistics at the beginning of April. The 23,600 sqm facility will be built in the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone in Łysomice near Toruń.

As one of the top providers of integrated logistics solutions, NYK Logistics is a global leader among shipping companies. While conducting production and warehousing operations for a key client in Poland, NYK Logistics needed a new warehouse in Toruń. Responding to this demand, Macquarie Goodman will build a top-quality warehouse tailored to the client’s production activities. This will be the third project completed for NYK Logistics, following warehouses in Genk and Mechelen. The warehouse, with a total area of 23,600 sqm, will consist of two parts with areas of 14,544 sqm and 8,693 sqm, respectively.

– We are very pleased to continue our cooperation with NYK Logistics, one of the leading logistics providers. Entrusting us with the implementation of another project is proof that the facilities we build meet the highest requirements of global leaders. – said Rafał Bochenek, Managing Director of Macquarie Goodman in Poland. – This project is important to us not only because of the expansion of our operations in Poland, but it is also proof that our clients can receive facilities in exceptionally attractive special economic zone areas without being direct investors themselves. – he adds.

The new warehouse will be built by Macquarie Goodman in Crystal Park in the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone in Łysomice near Toruń. This is an excellent location for NYK Logistics due to the fact that the warehouse will be built in very close proximity to the headquarters of the client for whom it is intended. The favorable location of the facility is also influenced by its proximity to the A1 motorway under construction, connecting Gdańsk and its ports with Warsaw. Crystal Park is located 9 km from Toruń, approx. 200 km from the Bay of Gdańsk, and 60 km from the international airport in Bydgoszcz. Construction of the first part of the project, which will include 14,544 sqm of warehouse space and 400 sqm of office space, will be completed at the beginning of October 2007.

Paweł Makuch, General Manager of NYK Logistics Poland, also expressed his satisfaction with the signing of the agreement with Macquarie Goodman. – One of the most important factors in choosing Macquarie Goodman for this project, which is important to us, was the fact that it creates top-quality, tailor-made properties. – he said.

The facility being built for NYK Logistics is the second investment by Macquarie Goodman in Poland, alongside the warehouse in the Grodzisk Mazowiecki Industrial Park near Warsaw for GEFCO (built by Eurinpro, which was acquired by Macquarie Goodman in May 2006). Close cooperation between the Polish and Japanese branches of Macquarie Goodman to best respond to the demanding and complex inquiry of NYK Logistics and ensure the security of the transaction throughout the negotiation process highlights excellent operational activity and the highest quality of customer service.

– The new investment in Poland will certainly contribute to building the Group’s strong position in the Polish logistics real estate market. – said Rob Van Nylen, Director of Business Development at Macquarie Goodman in Tokyo. – The agreement with NYK Logistics perfectly illustrates the business model we use. We have already built two warehouses for NYK Logistics in Belgium – one with an area of 19,000 sqm, the other with an area of 4,400 sqm, and we are proud that we can follow our client across Europe. – he added.
