IT in the service of logistics

A frequently asked question regarding the use of IT solutions in the logistics industry is about the benefits that a company and its clients can count on. Thanks to the application of IT solutions at every stage of the logistics process, control over the flow of goods is increased, and the planning of operations is also facilitated. Additionally, information about the status of orders and their delivery dates reaches logistics service recipients faster and is more comprehensive. This also has an impact on the assessment of the quality and efficiency of the activities carried out by the logistics operator and the possibility of cost optimization.
If a logistics company wants to maintain the level of its services at a competitive level, it is increasingly forced to invest in technologies that allow for reducing costs and improving the quality of services provided. Nowadays, a company must be up to date with existing and emerging solutions. However, it depends on its individual assessment whether and when to implement such solutions. It is worth noting at this point that despite the invention of RFID tags, the barcode is still much more popular.
One of the elements that influence the decision to purchase a given solution is the individual needs and requirements of clients resulting from the specifics of the industry in which they operate and the products they trade. A logistics operator often has to adapt everything, starting from goods receipt procedures, delivery and batch monitoring, recording, through mechanization and automation of work related to warehouse handling, the way racks are set up in the warehouse and the choice of storage methods, to inventory and preparation of goods for transport. Appropriate solutions, including IT solutions, must be adapted to these client requirements.
