Impressive results for Schenker

Schenker has achieved double-digit growth in all areas of its business across the world’s major economic regions.

Schenker, the logistics service provider belonging to the Deutsche Bahn AG group, is maintaining its growth trend. Since merging with the Deutsche Bahn group in 2002, Schenker has more than doubled its sales revenue – from 6.2 billion Euros to 13.2 billion Euros last year.
– We have proven that we are fully determined to seize our opportunities in the growing logistics market – said Dr. Norbert Bensel, Chairman of the Board of DB Logistics.

Schenker ranks first among European land transport operators, second in global air freight services, and third in global sea freight. Last year, Schenker strengthened its strong position in all areas of operation.

Thanks to the acquisition of BAX Global, as well as maintaining a 17 percent growth rate, Schenker has significantly improved its position in three key markets: in Europe, sales revenue increased from 7.2 to 9 billion Euros, in the Americas from 0.8 to 1.9 billion Euros, and in Asia from 0.8 to 2.2 billion Euros. Dr. Marco Schröter, CFO of Schenker AG, said: – Many of our competitors are only now taking steps to strengthen their position in developing regions of the world. Schenker’s customers have an easier situation because they have long been benefiting from functioning, global networks using all modes of transport. – For example, in Hong Kong, Schenker has been present for 40 years, while in the rapidly developing Chinese market, Schenker has a well-organized network currently comprising 70 branches and nearly 3,500 employees. The network is used mainly by companies in the consumer goods and automotive industries, as well as high-tech sector suppliers.

DB Logistics plans to further develop its international networks to meet the growing demand for integrated logistics services. The company prioritizes the further development of contract logistics. Dr. Bensel: – Studies have shown that in this “premier” branch of logistics, the German market alone – as a result of the development of outsourcing – shows a potential of 67 billion Euros, of which only 23 percent is currently being utilized. Hence, we plan to intensify our efforts in this field. Regarding our medium-term plans, we intend to advance into the top five global leaders among contract logistics service providers.
