The Polish branch of Fiege, one of the leading European logistics companies, is expanding its operations to include storage and transport services for medical products. So far, the company has invested nearly PLN 2 million in the project, which has been allocated to adapting the logistics center in Mszczonów for pharmaceutical storage. This is Fiege’s first investment of this kind in Poland.
In the logistics center in Mszczonów, a 1,500 sqm zone has been set aside specifically for the needs of clients in the pharmaceutical industry, although the company ultimately plans to allocate 5,000 sqm for this purpose. The facility has been rebuilt in accordance with the highest quality and safety standards and currently meets all requirements for the storage of medical products as specified in Polish pharmaceutical law. For the purpose of storing pharmaceuticals, the air temperature in the warehouse will be maintained between 15 and 25° C, while air humidity will be kept at a level of 65%. Temperature monitoring in the warehouse will be conducted using specialized measuring devices placed throughout the racking system. Furthermore, the security of pharmaceutical turnover will be guaranteed by the separation of special zones for the receipt and dispatch of goods.
– Storage and distribution services for medical products are currently offered by relatively few logistics operators in Poland, but we anticipate that this sector will grow dynamically over the coming years along with the development of the pharmaceutical industry. For this reason, we are already introducing storage and transport services for medicines into our portfolio. This undertaking requires us to combine elements of classic logistics with solutions adapted to the special requirements of pharmaceutical law, which is why it involves the necessity of incurring investment expenditures. Due to the specific nature of this industry, we will offer individual solutions tailored to the needs of specific clients. – says Bartosz Kuta, Business Development Manager at Fiege.
In addition to the storage of medical products, Fiege is also expanding its range of services to include their transport. The company will transport goods at a constant, strictly controlled temperature and deliver them to pharmacies across Poland as well as to distributors in most European countries. Service for the pharmaceutical industry – in accordance with the requirements of pharmaceutical law – will be conducted by specialists qualified to supervise operations in compliance with Good Distribution Practice (Good Distribution Practice) and Good Manufacturing Practice (Good Manufacturing Practice). Currently, Fiege is already providing some services for the pharmaceutical industry. The finalization of work on the final adaptation of the offer to the requirements of this sector will take place in October 2007.
