"Distribution and logistics in Russia" is the title of a conference organized at the end of February this year by the editorial staff of the "Vedomosti" newspaper at the Grand Marriott Hotel in Moscow. Over the past 3 years, conferences prepared by "Vedomosti" have gained recognition in the industry as a valuable source of knowledge and experience for managers and specialists from various sectors. This time, the meeting was attended by over 160 participants from various regions of Russia. There were also representatives of departmental authorities, including the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Moscow International Business Association.
The aim of the conference was to hold a discussion on the situation in the Russian logistics services market. The organizers intended to create a forum for dialogue between representatives of trading and manufacturing companies and providers of transport and logistics services. The morning session was devoted to trends in the development of logistics in Russia. It was pointed out that the logistics services market – as a relatively young sector in this country – has been developing very dynamically in recent years. Both transport and forwarding companies, as well as warehouse service operators, are constantly expanding the spectrum of logistics services for commercial and industrial enterprises. Currently, it is still difficult to find domestic logistics operators in Russia who could compete with foreign players and offer a full range of logistics services. However, as forecasts show, it should be expected that the situation in this regard may change significantly in the coming years. The growth dynamics of the Russian logistics services market, depending on the type of service and segment, ranges from 3% to 16% per year. The potential of this market is estimated at nearly 35 billion euros (and according to some sources, even at 90 billion euros). For comparison, the value of the European logistics market is estimated at approx. 600 billion euros, and the Polish one at approx. 6 billion euros.
