Diagnostics of motor vehicle controllers using the Internet

The article presents an innovative method for diagnosing passenger and commercial vehicle controllers using the Internet. This method is being used by an increasing number of vehicle manufacturers to diagnose unusual fault cases and to update controller software.The pace of development of automotive electronic systems and their degree of complexity have meant that classical methods of vehicle diagnostics and repair have often ceased to be effective. Unconventional faults required the intervention of specialists, often from distant parts of the country or even Europe. Such situations generated huge financial losses for companies and often led to a loss of reputation. The solution to such problems has become the use of computer networks to transmit data contained in vehicle controllers for the purpose of system diagnostics and fault identification. The development of the Internet, which now allows for vehicle testing almost anywhere on Earth, has contributed directly to the development of remote diagnostics. The basic premise of diagnostics using the global computer network is to reduce costs and shorten vehicle repair time. This method of diagnostics also allows for leveling the quality of services across the entire workshop network and enables the vehicle manufacturer to obtain immediate feedback on a design flaw in the system.
