Simulators play an important role in everyday life. Such solutions have found application in the railway industry. This paper presents the possibilities that the use of an ETCS simulator offers for railways.1. INTRODUCTION
Simulation is the approximate reproduction of a phenomenon or the behavior of a given object using its model. A special type of model is a mathematical model, often written in the form of a computer program, but sometimes the use of a physical model on a reduced scale is indispensable, e.g., for aerodynamic research. Simulation is widely used in every field of science and technology.
Simulators play an important role in everyday life. On one hand, a simulator reflects a genre of computer games, while on the other, simulators aim to represent various devices in operation and control as accurately as possible, e.g., military machines: tanks, combat aircraft, submarines, etc.; airplanes, cars, or those from other fields. We can also encounter simulations of devices that do not exist in reality, e.g., spaceships from the Star Wars trilogy. In the further part of the paper, we will present the possibilities of using a simulator in solutions related to rail transport. (…)
