Despite many obvious advantages, tram transport has a significant drawback, which is particularly important in the context of Poland’s accession to the European Union. Moving rolling stock generates noise that is burdensome for the urban environment. The article addresses the issue of the impact of the tram track structure type on the level of generated noise. It points to the need to rationalize the selection of the tram track type, depending on the location and surroundings of the tram line. The advantages and disadvantages of various technical solutions are presented.Tram transport is currently experiencing a renaissance. New tram lines are being built all over the world, existing lines are being modernized, and the rolling stock currently in use is being replaced by modern low-floor trams. Actions are being taken to give tram transport priority in street traffic. (…)
