Nowadays, more and more public utility buildings are being constructed in close proximity to tram and railway tracks. Passing rail vehicles generate vibrations that can be transmitted through the ground to buildings, which may cause damage and affect their comfort of use. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the impact of vibration waves traveling through the ground during the building design process. This article presents an attempt to determine the propagation of vibration waves in the ground caused by tram passages using the OMA method – Operational Modal Analysis. The work was carried out as part of research project 4875/B/TO2/2010/38.Nowadays, due to the very high density of urban development, residential and industrial buildings are increasingly located near railway and tram routes.
