The properties of beryllium bronzes depend primarily on the heat treatment applied. Most commonly, this is precipitation hardening, consisting of solution heat treatment and ageing. In the few available publications on this subject, there are significant discrepancies regarding the recommended temperature ranges for these heat treatment processes. This paper presents the results of original research on the influence of precipitation hardening on the abrasive wear of beryllium bronze containing 2% beryllium, which is the most commonly used in technology. It is shown that the applied heat treatment parameters affect the abrasive wear of beryllium bronze. A 2^3 full-factorial experimental design matrix and the Statistica computer program were used for the research and data analysis.INFLUENCE OF PRECIPITATION HARDENING ON AMPCOLOY 83 BERYLLIUM BRONZE ABRASIVE WEAR
Properties of beryllium bronze depend primarily on the applied heat treatment.
Precipitation hardening, consisting of solution heat treatment and ageing, is the most commonly used method. Few available publications covering the subject provide us with significant discrepancies related to the recommended solutioning temperature and ageing temperature ranges. This paper presents results of the author’s research on the influence of precipitation hardening on the abrasive wear of beryllium bronze containing 2% beryllium, which is most widely used in technology. The paper also demonstrates considerable influence of the applied heat treatment method on the abrasive wear of beryllium bronze. The analysis and result handling were performed with the use of the 2^3 full-factor experiment design matrix and Statistica software. (…)
