Current status of the use of thermal waters and geothermal energy in Poland

The article provides an overview of all types of installations exploiting thermal waters in Poland. Until the 1990s, thermal waters in our country were used in seven health resorts. Between 1996 and 2005, there was a development in the use of thermal water for heating purposes, and this period resulted in the construction of five geothermal heating plants. Subsequent years saw an increase in investor interest in using thermal water for balneological and recreational purposes, where thermal waters are used to supply recreational and swimming pools, saunas, and baths. In the last five years, eight water parks using thermal waters have been built in the Podhale region and the Polish Lowland. In Poland up to the 90-ties of the last century thermal waters were used in the seven health resorts. In the years 1996 – 2005 there has been an increase in use of thermal water for heating purposes. These’s resulted in the construction of five geothermal plants.
The following years shows an increase of investor’s interest in the use of thermal water for balneology and recreation purposes where thermal water is used for powering recreational and swimming pools, saunas and baths. In the last five years, there were built eight water parks using thermal water in Podhale and the Polish Lowland. The article outlines also the basic operating parameters of thermal waters that are mined on Polish territory. (…)
