PKP Intercity introduces electronic tickets – on mobile, tablet, and laptop

From April 15, 2012, passengers traveling with PKP Intercity can purchase tickets via any portable device with internet access, without the need to print a paper ticket. It is enough for the passenger to show the conductor the ticket code on the screen of a smartphone, laptop, or tablet during ticket inspection.

PKP Intercity introduces electronic tickets - on mobile, tablet, and laptop

Previously, PKP Intercity customers had to print the ticket purchased in the e-IC online sales system to present it during inspection on the train. For buyers, this meant the necessity of using a computer and a printer. Now, the Aztec code on the screen of a phone/computer/tablet is sufficient proof of ticket purchase.

How to buy a ticket online?
Simply:
1. Register and log in to the e-IC sales system (registration takes approx. 5 minutes);
2. Select any domestic connection operated by PKP Intercity – EIC/Ex/TLK;
3. Pay – via online transfer or credit card;
4. Save the electronic ticket as a PDF file on your device;
5. Show the ticket on the device screen to the train staff.

Honoring online tickets shown on electronic device screens is enabled by the new Regulations for Online Ticket Sales (e-IC) introduced on April 15, 2012.

– Providing this option to passengers is the result of implementing a strategy aimed at adapting to market and customer requirements. The growth in the number of mobile device users – tablets and smartphones – is dynamic, and we hope this service will be met with great interest from passengers. Furthermore, by introducing such services, we are becoming more eco-friendly – emphasizes Janusz Malinowski, CEO of PKP Intercity.

The condition for honoring “on-screen” tickets is presenting a valid ticket on the screen of a portable electronic device. The device must be capable of displaying images at least 25 by 25 mm in size. This way, the person performing the ticket inspection will be able to scan the Aztec code (QR code) located on the online ticket using a mobile terminal.
You can already buy tickets for all domestic connections in the PKP Intercity online sales system at www.intercity.pl. Soon, the carrier will make tickets for international routes available and launch the option to purchase tickets via mobile phone or mobile device.
From April 15, the technological break in the e-IC system has also been shortened by half an hour. It will now last from 11:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Only during this time is it impossible to purchase tickets via the online sales system.
In April, the carrier decided to lower prices and expand the online “Super Bilet” offer. This is a pool of discounted tickets intended for Express and Express Intercity category trains, in second class, for journeys over 50 km. It is available exclusively in the e-IC online sales system at www.intercity.pl. The ticket price is flat-rate, independent of distance, and the number of tickets in the offer is limited. Tickets are sold at lower prices compared to the standard tariff. First, seats from the cheapest pool at 29 PLN are sold, then – after these seats are exhausted – they can be purchased for 39 PLN, 59 PLN, and 79 PLN respectively. These prices include the fare and seat reservation.
Detailed information regarding promotional offers, statutory discounts, or timetables can be found on the carrier’s website www.intercity.pl. People without internet access can also obtain information by calling the Nationwide Railway Hotline at 19 757 (from landlines) or 42 20 55 007 (from mobile phones), or at Intercity information points at railway stations throughout Poland.
