DHL, the international express services provider, has announced that as of March 27, 2012, it is increasing the capacity and capabilities for intercontinental deliveries.

DHL increases capacity on the route connecting Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Leipzig

The introduction of new flights connecting Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Leipzig is a preview of an exceptional service offering on major trade routes between Asia and the western part of the United States and Canada.
Increasing transit efficiency between Asia, the western United States and Canada will secure DHL’s position as a leader in this field of services. This means expanding the offer to include an even greater number of Asian locations, including key hubs in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Manila, as well as a significant number of cities in China that benefit from new connections to Los Angeles, as well as many destinations in the western United States and Canada, with next-day delivery. The new intercontinental solution opens up opportunities for customers in Asian cities, who will be able to take advantage of express one-day deliveries.
Thanks to the new direct connection from Los Angeles to the hub in Leipzig, Germany, for European shipments, customers from California (including major cities: Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco) will be able to book a DHL courier for up to three hours later.
The efficiency and reliability of the service will be further enhanced by the introduction of three Boeing 777 freighters operated by Southern Air. In September 2011, DHL announced the signing of a multi-year agreement with Southern Air Inc. holding, which uses B777F freighters on the intercontinental flight route connecting the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. The first of the planned global connections from Hong Kong, via the Cincinnati hub, to Bahrain and back, is already ready. The additional freighters will enrich the DHL air fleet by another 12 machines.

– The introduction of the new intercontinental connection will enrich our capabilities as international specialists and bring immeasurable benefits to customers from Asia, Europe, the United States and Canada, shortening the lead time for express services on the most important global trade routes – said Ken Allen, CEO of DHL Express. – The increased capacity, range and reliability of the Boeing 777F freighters, as well as the more economical fuel consumption of our fleet, complement a series of investments already made in our global network over the past year. This further strengthens the position of DHL as a leader in international express delivery services.

B777F freighters burn about 20-25% less fuel and are characterized by high payload capacity on intercontinental routes, enabling non-stop service to more trade markets. The continued modernization of aircraft is part of DHL’s global program, which aims to increase carbon efficiency by 30% by 2020.
