DHL is responsible for transporting high-end equipment for the crews and pavilions for visitors across ten ports participating in the race, covering a route of over 72,000 km. The company is also responsible for short-term delivery of spare parts in case of failures. During the race, DHL will use a total of 152 containers to transport hundreds of tons of materials.

– The entire undertaking will be monitored in conjunction with an international control center established for the duration of the race. Thanks to the full range of logistics and freight services, we ensure the smooth running of the race for the organizers, as well as the crews and partners. From the starting point in Alicante, Spain, to the finish line in Galway, Ireland, DHL is responsible for transporting valuable equipment via air, sea, and road freight – said Reinier Vens, DHL Project Director for the Volvo Ocean Race.

As the official logistics partner of the Volvo Ocean Race, DHL is responsible for comprehensive management of the logistics process, starting from the collection of equipment and gear from individual teams at various locations, to the timely delivery of containers to designated destinations. DHL provides transport for two identical forty-foot sea containers with a capacity of 67 cubic meters, including the equipment and gear of all teams. While the crews use the contents of the first container, DHL is already delivering the next one to the following point on the route in advance. Upon arrival, the competitors will use it, while at the same time, DHL is already transporting the first container to the next port. This method guarantees on-time deliveries along with the availability of necessary equipment, and in this way, DHL is always one step ahead of the race teams.
In addition to sea containers, DHL provides each crew with air freight containers. In extraordinary cases, such as a broken mast, DHL is responsible for immediate replacement deliveries. To ensure efficient handling of such orders, a spare parts warehouse has been opened at Amsterdam Airport. This enables DHL to deliver oversized goods, such as masts, in a short time to any place in the world.
Effective cooperation between all DHL divisions is a guarantee of the smooth running of the entire undertaking. DHL offers individual solutions tailored to the most demanding customer needs. Due to long-term planning, DHL is able to react flexibly and on time in emergencies.
