For seven years, the Commercial Vehicle Tires division of Continental has been using a digital, handheld tool for tire monitoring as part of its fleet service. Thanks to these devices, it is possible to conduct quick, simple, and safe tire inspections on fleet vehicles. Data regarding tire condition allows for the immediate detection and correction of irregularities. Experience shows that in many cases, tire pressure is too low, which on one hand causes tire damage and on the other leads to increased fuel consumption. 90% of tire defects detected during fleet service are related to insufficient tire pressure.
The eBusiness team from the central marketing department of Continental’s Commercial Vehicle Tires division has recently introduced an improved version of this testing tool in Europe and Asia. Utilizing the Internet has repeatedly created added value, providing benefits not only for fleets operating on the international market but also for customer service and tire development.
Thanks to the use of the ContiFleetCheck device, data can be obtained and analyzed from anywhere in the world in just a few seconds. In a very short time, for example, it is possible to compare tire wear results in Brazil with data from South Africa, and those from North America with those from Europe. The impact of road surfaces, external temperatures, vehicle mileage, minimum tire pressure, or vehicle overloading are just a few factors that can be taken into account. Results from around the world allow for a quick assessment of whether a given tire is suitable for use in a specific region and what parameters should be considered during its development. This also allows for better utilization of tire test results performed before the production stage as well as data from fuel economy competitions conducted with customers.
