Another contract beyond the Oder

CTL Logistics GmbH, a company belonging to the CTL Logistics Group, and the German company Konrad Zippel Intermodal GmbH are joining forces. From the beginning of 2012, both companies, specializing in transport with complex logistics chains, will jointly begin handling transport from Hamburg and Bremerhaven to terminals in Buna and Wustermark in Germany. The partners have concluded a multi-year agreement for the transport of goods between container terminals, where the annual volume of transported goods will be at the level of 700,000 tons.

Another contract beyond the Oder

The agreement covers the transport of containers for the Hamburg operator, which has its own extensive network of intermodal connections in the south and north-eastern part of Germany. From 2012, some of these will be handled by the German company belonging to CTL Logistics – CTL Logistics GmbH, which will carry out transport 10 times a week on the route from Bremerhaven and Hamburg to the Buna terminals near Leipzig and Wustermark near Berlin. The implementation of the contract includes the organization of transport for a minimum of 450 trains per year, which means the annual transport of goods at the level of 700,000 tons. The implementation of this contract is another step strengthening the position of CTL Logistics on the intermodal transport market and aiming at further expanding the service network in Germany.

– Konrad Zippel Intermodal is a very demanding contractor – both in terms of service quality, delivery punctuality, and work organization methods. From our point of view, long-term cooperation with this company is proof of how we are perceived on the logistics market in Germany. Clients require experience, but they also appreciate the pace at which we are developing and winning subsequent very attractive contracts. We specialize in organizing east-west transport and focus our activities on this line, while simultaneously expanding our know-how – explains Michał Bryliński, Director of Sales and Development for Western Europe at CTL Logistics. – We also have joint plans to develop a rail transport network in Eastern Europe together with Konrad Zippel Intermodal. And for this, our strong position on the Polish rail market will be very useful.

The German market is the largest rail market in Europe. Poland ranks second in terms of the volume of freight transport. The German rail market is very attractive for private transport companies and differs slightly from the domestic one. In Poland, four main players dominate the rail freight market, including the largest, PKP Cargo. In Germany, the structure of rail carrier operations is very fragmented. There is one dominant player and many small, highly specialized transport companies. Some of them are unable to handle large and complex contracts, which benefits CTL Logistics GmbH, which, having over seven years of experience in serving the German market, is signing further favorable agreements beyond the Oder.
