In 1951, Dachser debuted as the first air freight forwarder on the German market. Opening an office at the Munich-Riem airport was the starting point for its operations in the air transport sector. International market operations were inaugurated with the opening of a new office in New York in 1970. Currently, Dachser Air&Sea Logistics is present in 137 locations worldwide. Last year, it transported 452,000 air shipments.
On August 19, 1911, cargo was transported by air for the first time in Germany. The flight took place from Berlin-Johannisthal to Frankfurt an der Oder, and the transported goods were the first German newspaper delivered by air – “Berliner Morgenpost”. Air freight was born in America a year earlier. In the autumn of 1910, 10 bales of silk flew 100 kilometers from Dayton to Columbus (Ohio). The first air cargo transport cost 5,000 dollars. Since then, air transport has become an indispensable element of the global economy – currently, as much as 35% of all cargo is transported this way.
