At the end of December, PKP Cargo obtained the German safety certificate part “B” issued by the Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (the equivalent of the Office of Rail Transport in Poland). The certificate was issued with a validity period until 2014. Obtaining this document allows the Polish rail carrier to independently perform all types of freight transport (including hazardous materials) within Germany.
– Obtaining the certificate is one of the most important events in the ten-year history of PKP CARGO, because our company is the first of the major foreign rail operators to receive a certificate authorizing it to perform independent transport throughout the entire territory of Germany. Thanks to this, we will be able to activate transport in European relations important for our interests, e.g., with German ports. It will also be very significant support for the recently established company PKP CARGO International, which performs transport outside of Poland – said Wojciech Balczun, President of the Management Board of PKP CARGO.
Receiving the new authorizations was preceded by many months of intensive work by PKP CARGO. Among other things, documentation was prepared confirming that the company has the capability to carry out independent freight transport while maintaining the required level of safety and in accordance with the rules in force in Germany. Thanks to the certificate, PKP CARGO will be able to independently carry out transport not only in Poland-Germany relations but also in Czech Republic-Germany relations, which is made possible by the Czech safety certificate part B already held for this purpose. The company received this certificate in January 2010. Based on it, it currently independently carries out the transport of goods within the Czech Republic.
