Solaris buses over the Indian Ocean

Until now, the most distant place where Solaris buses from Bolechowo near Poznań operated was Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Last month, six Urbino buses joined the fleet of a bus operator on Reunion Island, located in the Indian Ocean.

The owner of the six Solaris Urbino 12 buses, including one with a hybrid drive, is the French group Transdev, which provides transport services throughout Europe as well as on the remote Reunion Island. Transdev has previously purchased Solaris buses, including six hybrid buses that operate in the Paris region and in Strasbourg. The Solaris Urbino buses on Reunion primarily serve traffic in the island’s capital, Saint-Denis. Among the technical innovations equipped in the vehicles are: air conditioning adapted to tropical conditions and the CAPSIS system, which triggers a so-called green wave for traffic lights (the buses send a signal that changes the light to green, ensuring the buses do not wait in traffic jams). The vehicles from the factory in Bolechowo were first transported to the French port of Le Havre, and then reached the island, located approximately 700 km east of Madagascar and 200 km southwest of Mauritius, by sea in 4 weeks. Reunion covers an area of 2,512 sq km. It is inhabited by 802,000 people. The island is an administrative region and simultaneously a department of France with the status of an overseas department.
