New DHL Express terminals in Kielce and Szczecin

DHL Express (Poland) has launched 2 new terminals – in Kielce and Szczecin. Modern solutions, automation of sorting processes, and increased capacity are already bringing tangible benefits to the company’s customers.

New DHL Express terminals in Kielce and Szczecin

Terminal in Szczecin
The company has been present in the West Pomeranian region and Szczecin for 20 years. A team of over 130 employees and couriers serves the customers. The new facility is one of the most modern in the region. It simultaneously serves as a terminal for domestic and international shipments and as a gateway for international air shipments, one of 6 operating in Poland. As the only courier company in Szczecin, DHL Express also has its own customs agency, providing professional customs clearance. The facility also houses a customs warehouse. The investment is worth over EUR 4.7 million. The terminal can handle up to 10,500 shipments per day. This is possible thanks to the use of modern technological solutions, including a 175m+ automatic sorter with a capacity of 2,200 parcels per hour and direct sorting to 5 shipping directions. It has 67 gates – 19 with hydraulic ramps for trucks, 1 for heavy shipments with a ramp, 4 for loading and unloading bulk shipments, and 44 for courier parcel shipments. The warehouse area is 2,854 sq m, and the office area is 650 sq m. As part of the global GoGreen environmental strategy, appropriate solutions have been implemented. These include mechanical ventilation equipped with an air handling unit with a rotary heat exchanger (reducing heating maintenance costs), gas heating, waste segregation, and the installation of “presence sensors” for office lighting (electricity savings). Water from parking lots and maneuvering areas is treated in an oil separator before entering the sewage system. The warehouse is equipped with a series of skylights in the roof, which, combined with an “intelligent” electric lighting management system that adjusts to external light intensity, ensures optimal use of daylight for work.

Terminal in Kielce
The company has been present in the Świętokrzyskie region for over 14 years. Nearly 90 DHL Express employees and couriers are responsible for customer service. The new terminal is the most modern facility of its kind in Kielce, with an investment value of nearly EUR 3.2 million. It can handle up to 7,500 shipments daily – 250% more than the previous facility. Such a significant increase is ensured by modern technological solutions, including a 90m+ automatic sorter with a capacity of 2,200 parcels per hour and direct sorting to 2 shipping directions. The terminal has 42 gates – 11 gates with hydraulic ramps for trucks and 31 gates for courier parcel shipments. The warehouse area is 1,850 sq m, and the office area is over 536 sq m. Among the eco-friendly solutions used is an innovative rainwater harvesting system (rainwater from roofs) for flushing toilets and mechanical ventilation equipped with an air handling unit with a rotary heat exchanger. The terminal is gas-heated. Waste segregation is carried out, and “presence sensors” for office lighting allow for electricity savings.

Customers benefit from the full range of DHL Express services – express domestic and international services to over 220 countries worldwide (air and road). The most important benefits of opening the new facilities include:
• Extended customer service hours – thanks to sorters and a significantly larger number of loading gates than in previous facilities, couriers start delivering shipments to customers in specific areas earlier.
• Full shipment security – modern monitoring systems.
• Increased capacity and handling of a larger number of shipments ensure the highest quality service during so-called peak parcel periods (e.g., before holidays).

Couriers in the new terminals, just like throughout Poland, have portable scanners, thanks to which they can receive and send information about the status of order fulfillment to the DHL system online. This gives full control over the transport process, and customers can check the status of their shipment at www.dhl.com.pl or at the Contact Center, tel. (42) 6 345 345.

– The opening of the facilities in Kielce and Szczecin is another stage in the implementation of the investment plan for the development of the logistics network. In 2009-2010 alone, we launched 8 new terminals with a total value of nearly EUR 21 million. This allowed us to significantly increase the efficiency of the customer service process. We owe this success to the commitment of our employees and couriers, whom I would like to thank for this – said Tomasz Buraś, CEO of DHL Express (Poland). – But most importantly, this is not our last word. In response to the expectations and needs of our customers, we are planning further investments in areas key to our operations, thanks to which we ensure the highest quality service. That is, the development of our offer and services and increasing the efficiency of the logistics network.
