Obtaining AEO status is preceded by a detailed audit based on the criteria of the Community Customs Code. DSV Air&Sea had to prove that it consistently complies with customs regulations, document its solvency, and implement the required security and record-keeping procedures.
– Authorised Economic Operator accreditation is a real distinction – emphasizes Wojciech Świętochowski, Customs Director at DSV. – Many companies give up on pursuing AEO as early as the application submission stage.
An Authorised Economic Operator takes on part of the responsibility for the EU’s customs security, in return benefiting from numerous simplifications. DSV Air&Sea will be able to use a streamlined procedural path. Both shipments and the operator’s documentation will be treated as a priority and under special rules by customs authorities, including dedicated handling areas and the possibility of clearance outside of customs offices. The trust confirmed by the AEO certificate also means fewer and shorter physical inspections of transported goods.
– Customs simplifications may not seem very significant at first glance; after all, ships from Shanghai to Gdynia do not sail faster because of them. However, for many of our clients, delivery time guarantees are extremely important – explains Arkadiusz Mirek, Managing Director of DSV Air&Sea. – Meanwhile, AEO status allows not only for shortening the logistics process but, above all, for avoiding unpleasant procedural surprises.
