The newly built ABB warehouse in Aleksandrów Łódzki is one of the most modern and technologically advanced high-bay warehouses in Poland. The warehouse is multi-level. The projected number of storage locations in this facility is 5,000. Its design utilized ABB’s experience from similar warehouses in Switzerland. One of the main goals of implementing SAP Warehouse Management in the new ABB warehouse is to automate the operation of technologically advanced storage and transport equipment and to optimize the use of storage space. As a result, storage space will be used more effectively, and the number and time of warehouse movements will be reduced. The SAP solution will recommend how to arrange materials and components in the high-bay warehouse, taking into account, for example, their weight, frequency of release to production areas, and optimization of warehouse movements. Thanks to the integration with RFID terminals and barcode systems, the risk of errors during data entry will be minimal, and the time for recording events will be significantly reduced. Warehouse employees, equipped with portable barcode-reading terminals, will receive precise information via these devices about the materials or components needed to fulfill production or distribution orders. The terminals will indicate not only the picking list but also the storage location of the required items. Additionally, warehouse workers will receive information about where individual items should be placed on specific carts used for transport to the production zone. Thanks to this organization, employees at individual production stations will receive precisely prepared items in the order of picking, corresponding to the sequence required for the production process.
– We have been using the SAP system at ABB for over a dozen years, implementing it successively mainly with our own resources. This time, however, we decided to take advantage of the knowledge and experience of itelligence. Before choosing a warehouse management system, we conducted a detailed analysis of the functional capabilities of various solutions. We chose SAP Warehouse Management because it meets all our requirements. An additional benefit is that we significantly limit the number of interfaces and intermediate applications, reducing both maintenance costs and the risks associated with system upgrades to newer versions. In choosing itelligence as our implementation partner, we were guided by their credibility, experience, and competence in international projects – says Mariusz Pietrzkowicz, Director of SAP Services at ABB.
– For many years, we have consistently focused on building competencies in the logistics areas of the SAP solution. We have a professional team of specialists, expert know-how, and extensive implementation experience, including offering complete solutions with hardware partners. This is how we win in the market. The fact that ABB chose itelligence as its implementation partner is further confirmation of our competitive advantage in this area – says Piotr Milewski, Consulting Director at itelligence Sp. z o.o.
