Quality logistics of hazardous substances

Johnson Diversey has entrusted Wincanton with the warehousing and transport of hazardous goods.

Johnson Diversey was looking for an experienced provider of comprehensive logistics solutions for warehousing and domestic transport – mainly less-than-truckload and full-truckload deliveries involving hazardous substances. The company expected its future logistics partner to take actions that would ensure operational excellence in the handling process, including, among others, a high standard of operations, proper selection of personnel, care for employee development through the provision of periodic training, as well as care for the environment. Wincanton was invited to cooperate, having received very high ratings during previously conducted audits. Wincanton carried out an analysis of transport flows, volume and quality requirements for the warehouse, and an analysis of the warehouse stock structure. The next step was to plan the warehouse operation in three aspects: technical warehouse, basic warehouse, and heavy chemicals warehouse. Wincanton conducted a study of the customer structure and planned the method of goods distribution. The project was implemented in two phases: transport and warehousing.

– A breakthrough moment that accelerated the achievement of the required service level was the nomination of a team of key people responsible for the project. Agreeing on a cycle of monthly meetings allowed for efficient communication and a transition from the phase of agreeing on operational foundations to the level of process optimization – said Michał Sienkiewicz, Director of Logistics and Customer Service at Johnson Diversey.

– Thanks to the cooperation with Wincanton, Johnson Diversey has achieved the required quality and environmental standards, as well as reached the assumed effects at a high level. This is our joint success – summarized Dariusz Sobieraj, Operations Director at Wincanton.

After implementing quality metrics regarding warehouse work (picking accuracy, delivered on time) and transport (timeliness of deliveries and compliance of deliveries), a very high level of picking accuracy – 99.31% and delivered on time – 98.49% was achieved. This allowed Johnson Diversey to manage its stock more effectively and operate more flexibly. Furthermore, the implemented electronic document system E-POD significantly reduced printing costs and increased document availability.
