The findings from the study show that companies are willing to lend their vehicles to employees. As many as 59% of respondents declare that they can use them for any private purpose, and another 35% with certain restrictions. However, such a policy means high costs for companies. In this context, data regarding the number of kilometers covered daily by the average company car driver seems important. Flotis research shows that it is about 30 km per day. With 20 working days in a month, this means almost 600 additional kilometers per month.
Will the need for companies to monitor the use of company cars for private purposes affect drivers’ habits? Are there differences in the behavior of drivers monitored and not monitored by their employer? There are, and they are surprisingly large. When asked “do you give rides to family members?”, 64% of drivers from the group of companies not using monitoring answered yes, compared to 12% from the group with monitoring. Such a large difference was also maintained for other questions. Monitored drivers are about 5 times less likely to run errands or go shopping using a company car. They are four times less likely to take a company car on vacation. This means that implementing a monitoring system can bring large savings to the company. However, the Flotis analysis shows that only 20% of companies currently use a monitoring system.
Legal changes may force the implementation of company vehicle monitoring systems and more accurate recording of kilometers traveled. What will this mean for companies? Large savings despite the need to incur the costs of implementing the system. The prices of monitoring systems are getting lower and start from as little as 1 PLN per month per vehicle. For comparison, their use can bring savings of several or even tens of thousands of zlotys. However, there is a fear that companies will have to allocate the saved funds to cover the costs of the new tax. Employees who will not be able to use company cars to the same extent as before or will have to start paying for it will most likely also suffer. The freedom that most employers give in terms of using a company car may become just a fond memory.
