In other EU countries, only 23 percent of enterprises have them, according to the CVO (Corporate Vehicle Observatory) study, one of the most important international fleet market analyses conducted annually by Arval, an expert in corporate fleet management.
– Issues related to environmental protection certainly play an increasingly important role in making decisions about the purchase and operation of company vehicles. However, economic considerations have a huge impact – that is, the relatively low costs of, for example, LPG fuel. The question arises whether Polish companies are able to increase their cost-efficiency through ecological automotive solutions – wonders Janusz Kowalik, General Manager of Arval.
In terms of the share of “green” vehicles among company cars, Poland is a European leader. As many as 43 percent of respondents declare that their company operates at least one such vehicle. The average in other countries covered by the CVO Barometer is 23 percent. The reason for this state of affairs lies in the particular popularity in Poland of cars powered by so-called biofuels, LPG, or natural gas. This is most clearly visible in the SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) sector, which dominates the Polish market.
It is also impossible to rule out an increase in the ecological awareness of those making decisions about creating corporate fleet structures. Directives on reducing CO2 emissions in European Union countries by 20 percent by 2020 and on limiting CO2 emissions by vehicles to 120g per 1 kilometer by 2012 are gradually being implemented in Poland.
Representatives of Arval point to an interesting and relatively rare case where pro-ecological actions are simultaneously cost-optimal. The widely communicated and media-commented economic crisis may become an important element of the society’s ecological education.
