As part of this service, DHL Freight handles the transport of shipments to 13 countries in the Middle East region (Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen). The service includes road transport of less-than-truckload (over 31.5 kg), partial, and full truckload shipments, which reach recipients much faster than in the case of sea transport. Cargo is subject to customs clearance, and transit documents and letters of credit are also prepared and handled.
– The economies of Middle Eastern countries are among the fastest growing in the world. The countries belonging to the Gulf Cooperation Council [Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – ed. note] boast the highest average gross income per capita. The systematic increase in demand for consumer goods, including luxury goods, as well as the unique geographical location of the countries in this region, have led to a significant increase in transport volume – said Paweł Kisiel, Freight Development Director at DHL Freight. – For DHL Freight, this was an impulse to launch a road service between Europe and the Middle East – a pioneering venture in many respects. For our customers, a regular road service, which is economical and offers attractive delivery times, represents a real alternative to expensive air transport or time-consuming sea transport.
DHL Freight is consistently developing its network of road freight connections in this region. In Europe, direct road connections to and from Middle Eastern countries are handled by 13 road terminals. In the Middle East, a Transit Center operates in Istanbul, from which shipments are sent to 4 sorting centers in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Amman, and Dubai, and then transported to their final destinations.
