Modern management at Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA

IFS is implementing the second phase of the IFS Applications ERP system at the Gdynia-based Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA (Naval Shipyard). This will contribute to increased control, efficiency, and the company’s competitiveness in the market. The IFS system functionalities implemented in the first phase of the project, which concluded in March 2008, have already contributed to a reduction in costs and delivery times.

Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA is involved in the repair, construction, reconstruction, and modernization of vessels for the Navy, as well as the merchant, fishing, and technical fleets. The shipyard’s scope of activity also includes the production of special equipment, products, sub-assemblies, and spare parts. Furthermore, the company provides various types of services – from repair, docking, design, and cooperation services to transport, forwarding, and warehousing. Due to its diverse operations, in May 2007, Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA decided to implement the latest version of IFS Applications. The system replaced the solution previously used by Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA and streamlined the company’s operations.

The shipyard chose IFS Applications because the system’s strengths lie in functionalities particularly important for companies where project execution dominates their operations. The solution is already successfully used by approximately 40 shipyards worldwide, which confirms IFS’s experience in this industry. IFS’s strong position among ERP system providers in Poland was also a significant factor.

The implementation process was divided into two stages. The first stage, lasting from May 15, 2007, to March 31, 2008, covered the following modules: IFS Finance, IFS Distribution (in the scope of procurement), IFS Human Resources, and IFS Payroll. The goal of this stage was to replace the previously used IT solution with a modern, integrated ERP management support system.

Currently, the second phase of the IFS Applications implementation is underway at Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA, which significantly expands the project’s scope. Further essential modules are being implemented: IFS Distribution (in the sales section), IFS Manufacturing, IFS Project, IFS Maintenance, and IFS Document Management. The launch of the system with full functionality, as defined in the second phase of implementation, is planned for the second half of 2009.

The shipyard is already seeing the effects of the IFS Applications system implementation. The company primarily counts among these the streamlining of warehouse management – data on whether required material is in stock and in what quantity is available in real-time. Purchasing and storage costs have also been reduced, and delivery times have been significantly shortened.

Currently, 450 users are using the IFS Applications system at Stocznia Marynarki Wojennej SA.
