Kuehne + Nagel and AIRDEX Partnership

Kuehne + Nagel and AIRDEX International have announced the formation of a strategic alliance to conduct research and find a solution that satisfies customers interested in reducing costs and environmental impact in air freight.

One of the biggest factors contributing to high logistics costs and CO2 emissions is the use of air transport as the only method to ensure fast delivery for the customer.

According to Rainhard Lange, Chief Operating Officer of Sea and Air Logistics and Deputy CEO of Kuehne + Nagel International AG: “This alliance will support our efforts to find innovative solutions for our customers to provide ‘lean and green’ alternatives for their transport needs. We see large financial benefits for the supply chain and benefits for the environment in these seemingly small solutions.”

Part of this strategic cooperation will be the creation of a “Learning Network” with selected customers, managed by Ken Nieze, Senior Vice President of Eco Solutions in Air Freight at Kuehne + Nagel, Dr. Rod Franklin, Vice President of Development and Environmental Innovation at Kuehne + Nagel, and Mark Berger, Vice President of Logistics at AIRDEX. The learning network, which will be established in Luxembourg as a result of cooperation with Hewlett Packard (HP), aims to examine the final value and environmental benefits of using lightweight and tall pallets for transporting goods in the supply chain. This project is intended to demonstrate the impact of using 3 kg plastic pallets from AIRDEX in transport, which, compared to traditional wooden ones, offer significant savings in total transport weight and thus a reduction in transport costs and energy requirements, using the Kuehne + Nagel network as an integral part of the customer’s supply chain.

This pilot program will be implemented in the supply chain for Hewlett Packard Co. from Asia to Luxembourg.
