National vs. European guidelines for rack dimensioning – part 3

National vs. European guidelines for rack structure dimensioning – part 1

National vs. European guidelines for rack dimensioning – part 2

The article as a whole was intended by the author to be published in two parts. Part 1 was included in “Logistyka” 6/2001. Part 2 was to be published in issue 1/2002.

Not through the fault or knowledge of the author, only a portion of the previously planned second part was included in issue 1/2002, which caused the introduction to it to become partially outdated. Furthermore, it did not follow from its content that there would be a continuation in the form of part 3. This may have caused some confusion among Readers, for which the editorial staff sincerely apologizes. In parts 1 and 2 of the article (“Logistyka” 6/2001 and 1/2002), national guidelines (IL-B-001 based on the PN-90/B-03200 standard) were compared with European guidelines (FEM 10.2.02) regarding the stability of columns under axial compression and compression with simultaneous bending, and other issues very important for safety were discussed, such as the design tilt angle of the rack, the method of testing clearances in the hook connection, and the impact of including these clearances in the stability analysis on its result. In the third part, the author also discusses, in a comparative convention, further issues affecting the stress of rack structures, i.e.: the stiffness of the hook connection, characteristic features of the most common test stands for it, the dynamic factor, and the impact of clearances in the hook connection on the load of the beam and its hook.

The article comes from the “Logistyka” magazine 2002/2.
