The area of Poland covered by euroregional cooperation amounts to over 115 thousand sq. km. This constitutes approximately 36% of Poland’s entire territory. It is inhabited by almost 12 million people, which is nearly 31% of the country’s total population. A significant portion of Poland’s production and transport potential is located in this area. More than one in four economic entities registered in the nationwide REGON register operates in the areas covered by euroregional cooperation.
Cross-border cooperation in western areas – Euroregion “Nysa”
The “Nysa-Nisa-Neisse” Euroregion is the first local government organization to undertake cross-border cooperation in Central and Eastern Europe. It is significantly diverse not only in terms of urbanization but also regarding the size and structure of the national economy. The Polish area of the “Nysa” Euroregion is less developed than the other parts, especially the German one. The decisive influence on this situation is the industry, which dominates there in relation to other production sectors of the national economy. In the Polish part, the structure of production activities is almost uniform, i.e., the share of industrial production does not differ much from the share of agriculture and forestry, trade and services, and so-called other activities. The varying level of industrialization of individual parts of the Euroregion is evidenced by the share of the economically active population employed in industry.
