We have been dealing with Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) globally for over 20 years. During this time, the initial concepts of EDI development have undergone numerous transformations, especially from the perspective of the technology used to implement electronic data transmission via the Internet, and recently, attempts have also been made to introduce the so-called mobile Internet in road freight transport. It is therefore worth taking a closer look at this new concept at a time when the idea of a mobile information society is gaining increasing popularity.
Briefly about EDI
In dictionary terms, EDI is the electronic transmission of structured commercial data from an application program or database in one organization to an application program or database in another organization. The use of EDI is most often associated with the exchange of standardized electronic documents for the purpose of executing commercial transactions. These are most commonly commercial messages (price catalog, order, invoice), transport messages (transport order, delivery advice), and financial messages (bank transfer, information about cash movements in an account). Of course, the provided examples of EDI application do not exhaust the numerous examples of transmitting electronic documents, known as messages.
