Tracking the development of Supply Chain Technology, it can be observed that nowadays it depends less on classical mechanical and equipment engineering (even robotic ones) and significantly more on computer-integrated cooperation and the so-called “flexible composition” of various techniques and technologies.
Effective progress in planning and controlling the flows of vast quantities of materials (solid, liquid, and gaseous) in supply networks of global, regional, and local reach is essentially impossible without the use of advanced telecommunications, IT, and automation techniques and technologies. Fig. 1 presents a hierarchical model of a kind of information pyramid for supply chain integration.
