RSS and composite symbologies were developed by EAN International and UCC for marking very small objects (such as syringes, vials, telecommunications components), variable-measure trade items requiring full product identification, individual agricultural products (such as apples and oranges), and logistics units containing pallets with mixed trade items.
Issue 6 of “Logistyka” from 1999 featured an article titled “New EAN.UCC reduced space symbologies”. This article presented the types and structure of Reduced Space Symbologies (RSS) and composite symbologies, as well as their projected applications. This article will briefly present the “Global Application Guide for RSS and Composite Symbologies for Marking Small Objects in Healthcare” developed by EAN International and UCC. This is the first such guide developed for the aforementioned symbologies. This article will briefly outline its content.
