The boom in the Polish passenger aviation market continues. This is the main thesis of the report published by the portal money.pl.
Since 2004, the number of passengers handled by our airports has been growing very dynamically. In 2007, it was more than twice as high as three years earlier. And although growth will slow down slightly this year, according to the Money.pl forecast, the number of passengers will grow by 7.92 percent and reach the level of 23.3 million.
Polish airport managers know that without investment in infrastructure, airports could soon be paralyzed. Therefore, over the next few years, they will invest at least 1.1 billion PLN in, among other things: new terminals, parking lots, and aircraft aprons.
The clear leader in terms of the number of passengers handled remains Warsaw’s Okęcie, which will approach the magic threshold of 10 million passengers this year. The second largest airport in terms of passenger numbers, Kraków Balice, will handle 3.5 million passengers.
The Katowice airport in Pyrzowice and the Lech Wałęsa Airport in Gdańsk are fiercely competing for third place. The former will be used by 2 million 600 thousand passengers this year. The latter plans to handle 2 million 462 thousand people.
According to the forecast prepared on the basis of information provided by the airports, in 2008, the number of passengers using the airport in Łódź will grow the most dynamically.
And although in the first quarter it was only 7 percent higher than in the corresponding period of 2007, on an annual scale, the number of passengers will be nearly twice (92.87 percent) higher than in the entire year 2007.
