Logistics of a radio newsroom

For the third time, we are presenting logistical solutions used in newspaper editorial offices. This time, we have focused on radio – the fastest of the media presented so far.

The fastest news
Radio Merkury SA is one of the seventeen regional stations of Polish Radio and broadcasts in Greater Poland on five frequencies. The main headquarters of the station is located in Poznań, and single-person field editorial offices operate in Kalisz, Konin, Leszno, Piła, Gniezno, Grodzisk, and Środa Wlkp., transmitting the most important news from these locations. The daily news service is the most important item in the program. Its good and highly flexible organization, as well as specific and pioneering solutions, have made Radio Merkury the leader among the fastest media in Greater Poland.
The region is the most important
The work of the news service editorial office begins very early. From 6:00 AM, the newsroom is busy searching for important and interesting topics, reviewing news published by various news agencies, the press, and faxes and emails sent to the editorial office. All information about meetings, press conferences, and briefings creates a computer-based calendar for the day. At the morning editorial meeting, the so-called operational meeting, the editor assigns news topics to reporters. They also make decisions about how the information should be prepared and the time of its broadcast. After the operational meeting, correspondents from the seven branches of Radio Merkury also submit proposals for materials from their areas via email.
The Radio Merkury news service presents the most impactful and attractive information from Greater Poland. A single piece of information must be prepared in such a way that it is interesting and useful for the listener.
