Guide to Good Practices in Urban Freight Transport

Guide to Good Practices in Urban Freight Transport

As part of the European project BESTUFS (BEST Urban Freight Solutions), coordinated by PTV AG (Karlsruhe, Germany), the Guide to Good Practices in Urban Freight Transport (GGP) has been developed.

The guide presents information gathered by BESTUFS project experts on the best European practices regarding the movement of goods in urban areas, and in particular, the steps that can be taken to improve the flow of products in cities and reduce congestion in city centers. The guide is full of detailed data, facts, and examples of successful solutions in urban freight transport, making it a unique source of information for anyone involved in or interested in the transport of goods in urban areas.

The publication is aimed in particular at urban planners, representatives of local and regional administration, universities and schools dealing with urban transport, transport companies, logistics enterprises and associations, as well as anyone interested in urban freight transport.

The Guide describes solutions that can be applied to increase the efficiency of product deliveries in urban areas and reduce their harmful impact on the natural environment. The publication covers three main topics:

1. Accessibility for freight vehicles and transshipment in urban areas;
2. Basic issues and solutions regarding the last mile of delivery;
3. Issues related to urban consolidation centers.

In February 2008, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing in Poznań plans to organize a one-day workshop dedicated to the best solutions in urban freight transport. The workshop program includes a detailed discussion of the material contained in the Guide to Good Practices and the presentation of practical solutions and real-life examples. The workshop will take place in Poznań, at the Institute’s headquarters. Detailed information about the BESTUFS project and its results is available on the project website http://www.bestufs.net/. Those interested in the Polish paper version of the Guide or in participating in the workshops are requested to contact us directly via email: ewa.dobrzeniecka(at)ilim.poznan.pl
