Inauguration of the academic year at WSL

A solemn atmosphere. Distinguished guests. A crowd of students. This is how the University of Logistics (WSL) inaugurated the new academic year on Saturday, October 6th. The university admitted a record number of 1,240 candidates to the first year of studies!

– Just as land, however fertile, cannot be productive without cultivation, so the mind cannot be without learning – quoting Cicero, the Rector of WSL, Prof. Andrzej Korzeniowski, emphasized the importance of the education process.

The inauguration was highlighted by the awarding of prizes to outstanding WSL staff and students. The company Prologis awarded the university’s best graduate. For the first time, impressive WSL statuettes were awarded to the best graduates of bachelor’s (full-time and part-time) and master’s degree programs. The Rector also presented numerous book awards and letters of commendation.

– We have admitted 1,240 students to the first year of studies. The new academic year will be started by 3,020 students, including 2,280 in bachelor’s programs and 740 in supplementary master’s programs. – said the Rector of WSL, Prof. Korzeniowski.

Inauguration of the academic year at WSL

The ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests – the Voivode of Greater Poland Tadeusz Dziuba, rectors and deans of many universities from Poznań and Wrocław, presidents of dozens of companies cooperating with WSL, a group of professors and other academic and teaching staff, as well as a great number of students.

WSL is developing very dynamically. In the past academic year, the university achieved significant results in many areas of operation. The university’s human resources potential grew, scientific research and publishing activities were developed, and the number of students increased. The school’s management system was improved, among other things, by creating an electronic platform. Library collections grew, and study conditions improved significantly. The system of financial aid for students, both full-time and part-time, was developed in the form of social scholarships, scholarships for academic performance, and for sports achievements.

Last year, an electronic lending library was also launched, and the ability to reserve and order books via an online platform was created. The catalog was also made available via the website, which allows people from outside the university to freely browse the resources.
The position and development of the university require active contacts and cooperation with foreign countries. The past academic year at WSL was a period of intensive work aimed at developing foreign contacts. As part of the long-standing cooperation with the Technische Fachhochschule Wildau near Berlin, in the past academic year, more graduates obtained a double degree in the field of logistics. WSL also expanded its cooperation in the field of student and lecturer exchange, as well as joint research projects with universities from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia, and Finland.

The University of Logistics successfully completed the international project NEDLOG “Modern Education for Logistics,” for which it was the coordinator. The project, implemented jointly with partners from Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Hungary, concerned the creation of didactic modules based on the convention of distance learning via the Internet.

In the past academic year, 16 research projects were carried out, 11 of which were completed. It is worth noting that in 2007, the University of Logistics was granted a subsidy for financing research as part of its statutory activities from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Such funding was granted to only a few Polish non-public higher education institutions.

Also very important for the university is cooperation with domestic manufacturing, distribution, IT, and logistics companies, as well as with institutions and schools that enable students to complete professional internships.

Inaugurating the 2007/2008 academic year, the University of Logistics begins its seventh year of operation, providing education at the bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate levels.
