In August 2007, JAS-FBG expanded the service package of its customs agency located in Hrubieszów. The facility now features warehouse space, a paved yard, a transshipment ramp for broad-gauge to standard-gauge rail, broad-gauge rail to truck, equipment for transshipping solid and bulk materials, and pumps enabling liquid transshipment at a rate of 80 tons per hour.
Hrubieszów is situated on the Pan-European Transport Corridor No. III, leading from Germany, through Poland and Ukraine, towards Russia, a route that recorded the highest share of rail freight in both exports and imports in 2006.
Rail transport in Poland continues to develop. Data presented by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) in the report “Transport – activity results in 2006” shows that 291.4 million tons of cargo were transported by rail last year, representing an 8.1% increase compared to the previous year. A particularly visible increase in transport volume is seen in transit transport (over 28%). An upward trend also applies to intermodal transport: over a 30% increase in container transport, mainly in international traffic. According to the data contained in the GUS report, Polish rail transport ranks second among European Union countries (13% of total rail freight) – Germany holds the first position.
