In the first part (“Logistyka” 1/2003), the author presented a general classification of IT systems addressing inventory issues, along with an overview of the functionalities offered regarding inventory analysis, which allow users to manage inventory in accordance with current circumstances.
Characteristics of the recording systems group
In the quite numerous group of recording systems (popular, most often autonomous, integrated via specially developed “bridges”), we are dealing more with the handling of warehouse turnover of raw materials or production materials and records related to maintaining material accounting and settling purchases or sales. Inventory recording is carried out by registering special warehouse turnover documents.
It is quite often noticeable that the recording of material turnover and inventory levels is the primary function of systems in this group. It is generally described by a series of statements and reports providing, among other things, information on:
– the size of warehouse stocks in a quantity-value layout maintained at accounting or weighted average prices; systems often allow for the existence of several warehouse states for a single index, differing from each other by the delivery batch number
– material turnover broken down by individual types of materials and material index items
– material consumption in the layout of orders (in connection with production settlement) and material groups (often useful for reporting)
– materials showing no movement.
Furthermore, concepts related to inventory in this group of IT systems are reduced to the possibility of their value revaluation in cases where warehouse stocks are maintained in quantity-price categories.
