Master’s Degree from the College of Logistics

A whole range of emotions – from laughter and joy to disbelief, ending with regret and tears. Such were the emotions accompanying the newly graduated students of the College of Logistics (WSL). Last Saturday, they received their formal graduation certificates in the UAM auditorium.

The ceremony was all the more solemn as WSL bid farewell to its first Master’s degree graduates. After a total period of five years, they were the first in Poland to receive Master’s degrees from a logistics university.

Rector Prof. Andrzej Korzeniowski, in his final words to the graduates, compared the effort of obtaining an education to traveling a path.
– Thanks to your perseverance, you have managed to travel this path, and today, following Jan Nepomucen Kamiński, we can say that “it is pleasant to stand at the shore.” We have reached it with the hope that on the other side, each of you has left behind your fear, uncertainty, and doubt. And only with such a conviction is it “pleasant to stand at the shore.”

The authorities of the College of Logistics honored the best graduates, thanking them for their sporting successes, activities in scientific circles and the student government, as well as for the best academic results. Ceremonial graduation certificates were presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Logistics, Docent Zbyszko Pawlak, to 316 Bachelor’s and 99 Master’s graduates of WSL.

Master's Degree from the College of Logistics

The 2006/2007 academic year was a year of dynamic development for the College of Logistics. The university was the first in the country to receive approval to conduct the “logistics” field of study. Two new specializations were introduced: “logistics in small and medium-sized enterprises” and “real estate management.” The number of applicants for studies increased significantly.

During the past period, a number of academic textbooks related to the implemented curriculum were printed, and an electronic scientific journal, “LogForum,” was introduced to the market, dedicated entirely to research problems in the field of broadly understood logistics. At the same time, the College of Logistics carried out a number of research topics and grants with domestic and foreign partners and was a co-organizer and organizer of conferences. The university’s staff delivered several dozen papers at national and international conferences. Several hundred articles were published in scientific journals. The College of Logistics Library expanded its collections, becoming a workplace for many people writing their Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.

A major achievement of the College of Logistics was establishing partnerships with companies considered market leaders. The group of university partners includes logistics, manufacturing, trade, and IT companies, such as: Kuehne + Nagel, DHL Servisco, Emax, SAS, Quantum, Agrobex, Volkswagen, PC Quard, BCS Polska, Wielkopolska Agricultural and Horticultural Guild, Promag SA.

Since its inception, the College of Logistics has also been striving to develop international cooperation. Thanks to the partnership with the German university Technische Fachhochschule Wildau, students have a unique opportunity to learn about European logistics. Trips to logistics centers in Germany organized jointly with German logisticians and guest lectures are just some of the forms of cooperation between the two universities. From the perspective of the graduates’ professional prospects and opportunities, the most significant aspect is the awarding of double degrees by partner universities – Polish and German.

Expanding the scope of foreign cooperation, WSL has taken further steps to sign subsequent agreements, including with Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Finland), the College of Logistics in Přerov, the Technical University of Košice, the State University – Higher School of Economics in Moscow, and the International Association of Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Minsk.

The Erasmus Charter received two years ago allowed for broader contacts with European universities last year through the exchange of students and teaching staff, and provided the opportunity to introduce the European Credit Transfer System.

WSL has become a popular university. This is due to the fact that logistics is currently experiencing a huge boom. Graduates of this field have no problems finding work and are often very well paid, with an open path to a brilliant career. High school students, noticing this trend, want to study at a good university. Such is the first logistics university in Poland, which has the widest logistics educational offer on the Polish market. Last year, WSL admitted over a thousand students, and everything currently indicates that the Poznań university will record a record enrollment.

During Saturday’s graduation, one of the best WSL graduates, Artur Olejniczak, summarized the time spent at the university:
– Poznań is famous for its billy goats, one of the most beautiful market squares in Poland, the Poznań International Fair, Lake Malta, and St. Martin’s croissants. Another brand has been added for which Poznań is famous, and it is undoubtedly the College of Logistics.
