Schenker, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, is expanding its operations across a vast area in the central Middle East and East Africa. By establishing a dedicated regional branch there, the importance of Schenker, which for many years was represented in these areas by partners, is increasing. Schenker’s latest venture in Dubai is being implemented jointly with its existing partner BAX Global – Al Naboodah.
– Thanks to this investment, we can offer our customers in Dubai comprehensive and universal logistics solutions of high quality. – says Dr. Thomas C. Lieb, member of the Schenker AG Board responsible for international air and sea freight. The company plans to develop its network in the central Middle East and East Africa region, which will enable the expansion of the company’s reach.
Schenker will coordinate its services from its regional headquarters in Dubai in the following countries: United Arab Emirates, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
From the perspective of global logistics, Dubai is one of the most interesting markets currently in a development phase. The Jebel Ali port will be expanded to reach a production capacity of 15 million TEU per year. Meanwhile, the new airport is planned to handle 12 million tons of cargo annually.
Schenker has recently started offering a new air service – a regular direct connection from Dubai via Hahn to Toledo, Ohio/USA.
