The simulation studies of parking systems presented in the article were preceded by empirical research on vehicle traffic intensity and concerned a real facility, which was the parking complex of the Cracow University of Technology (located between the streets: Warszawska, Szlak, Pędzichów, and Słowacki Avenue), with the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) buildings and the Helcl Foundation gardens (on Helclów St.) located nearby.
In the area under consideration, two zones can be distinguished. The first – from Warszawska Street to the buildings of the former Institute of Automotive Vehicles and the Faculty of Architecture of the CUT. Nearby there is also: the rector’s office, the main library, the periodical reading room, the professor’s reading room, dean’s offices, and the faculties of: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Foreign Language Center, the exhibition and conference pavilion, the canteen, service and catering points, etc. This area is intended to serve representative functions in the future. The development of this area is mostly historic, dating back to the second half of the 19th century, when it housed the barracks of the Austrian army. The former square located in the middle of the former barracks, due to the large amount of greenery that blends nicely with the historic buildings, serves as a recreational area for the university.
