The College of Logistics has organized the international scientific conference WSL Forum for the second time. Over one hundred participants from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany met in Poznań to discuss the problems of modern logistics in scientific research.
The conference was opened by the Rector of the College of Logistics, Prof. Andrzej Korzeniowski. During the first lecture, Prof. Bernd Hentschel presented German logistics solutions designed to meet the needs of manufacturers. It turned out that engine manufacturers face a major logistics challenge after the sale. The requirement to service engines after a specific mileage makes it necessary to bring the engines in and disassemble them into the smallest parts. In total, this requires up to 3,000 operations. In the case of detected defects, spare parts are imported from companies scattered all over the world. A logistics problem arises, the solution to which allows for cost reduction. In Germany, a program has been created through which the best graduates of the logistics field can co-create solutions to this problem.
An interesting lecture was presented by Prof. Danuta Kiperska-Moroń from the University of Economics in Katowice, comparing the logistics supply chain to an ecosystem. The professor noted that the supply chain is a complex system of companies and people that functions similarly to living organisms. In her opinion, companies, just like animals, parasitize on each other, live in symbiosis, or cannot stand each other. She suggested that by observing animals, one can draw conclusions for supply chains.
– Let’s look at geese – she said – they start separately, but once in the air, they join into a formation because it is easier for them to navigate.-

The next speaker was Prof. Vit Voženilek, who presented methods for researching transit traffic in the city of Přerov in the Czech Republic. Traffic there is studied jointly by logisticians and geographers, who perform geo-animation for the city. Based on the results, it will be possible to divert transit traffic out of the city.
At the plenary session, papers devoted to supply chains were also delivered by Prof. Marek Ciesielski and Dr. Grzegorz Szyszka. The issue of applying artificial intelligence in logistics was presented by Prof. Marek Fertsch. WSL Forum participants also deliberated in selected sections divided according to the following topics:
– Logistics systems and supply chains
– Enterprise logistics
– Information systems / e-economy
– Production logistics
– Transport
– Quality / risk management
– Economic problems of logistics
– General problems of logistics

The conference was attended by both academic staff and several students from logistics scientific circles of the Poznań University of Technology, the University of Łódź, and the College of Logistics in Poznań, who complimented the organizers:
– A very professional conference, many interesting guests from all over the country and abroad – said Zygmunt Kopacz from the Poznań University of Technology – the subject matter is extremely broad. The papers were presented not in the form of standard lectures, but as presentations of innovative ideas outlining the future of logistics. –
– The speakers made us aware of the multitude of logistics choices that practitioners face every day, and also showed ways to deal with them – added Natalia Edwarczyk from the Logistics Scientific Circle of the Poznań University of Technology.

During the conference, Małgorzata Korczak, a graduate of the College of Logistics, received an award for the best bachelor’s thesis in the Prologis for the Best competition. At the end of the fruitful deliberations, the Rector of the College of Logistics said goodbye to the participants with the words: – Let us support and cooperate with each other, and we will continue to develop this necessary field which is logistics.-
The WSL Forum conference is held periodically in odd-numbered years, alternating with the Polish Logistics Congress Logistics organized by the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing. Both events are international in nature. The Congress deals with best practices in logistics. At the WSL Forum, however, logistics problems in scientific research are discussed.
