Is there a connection between a large truck and a sample of delicate cream in a women’s magazine? Yes, and this is not the beginning of another joke. The 2nd Scientific Conference WSL FORUM 2007 will be held in Poznań. In one of the papers, participants will learn that logistics connects almost all spheres of our lives, even transport with cream.
Today, every company fights for the customer. It competes not only with the product and its price. It also offers discounts, 24/7 consultations, or freebies. The media market is no different. Publishers of women’s magazines often add samples of creams or shampoos to their magazines. However, at the moment of purchasing such a magazine, the reader does not think about what such an insert means for the publisher. They tear off the sample and enjoy the freebie, while the publisher has to reform the entire distribution of the magazines. They become thicker, heavier, fewer of them fit in a package, they must be handled with more care, so transport costs increase. This is where a great field for logistics appears! This is just a fragment of the analysis of one of the conference papers, which will concern “Magazine distribution in the context of new marketing trends”.
Participants of WSL FORUM 2007 will see that thanks to the use of the GPS system in logistics, it is possible not only to determine the vehicle’s route with an accuracy of 4 meters. This system also enables the recording of many vehicle parameters, e.g., the fuel level in the tank. It allows for the control of drivers’ working hours. It can be integrated with an order processing system. As a result, it significantly improves logistics processes.
The conference will present the results of research that will be used in business operations. Participants will learn about transport development methods aimed at reducing the dominance of road transport and improving the efficiency of supply chain operations. They will learn about the growing role of risk management in logistics and the possibilities offered by the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
These are just elements of the conference papers that will be delivered on May 18 at the headquarters of the College of Logistics, at ul. Estkowskiego 6 in Poznań. The remaining papers focus on the following areas:
– logistics systems
– supply chains
– enterprise logistics
– information systems
– e-economy
– transport
– risk management
– quality management
– economic problems of logistics
The College of Logistics is organizing the WSL FORUM conference for the second time. The first edition of this event took place two years ago and met with great interest from the logistics community.
