TNT Express in the face of EU enlargement

TNT Express, a global provider of express transport services for institutional clients, has made significant investments in Bulgaria and Romania. These are related to the accession of these countries to the European Union and the projected intensification of trade relations between new and existing EU members. TNT’s investments concern the road transport services segment and include, among others, the expansion of infrastructure and transshipment centers.

– Large international corporations in the manufacturing sector have already become involved in this region and are announcing further significant investments. At the same time, analyses predict dynamic development of international transport between new and existing EU members – with an annual growth rate of 30 percent. TNT intends to capitalize on this growth and expand the range of services offered. As a result of the opening of borders, we will be able to shorten transit times by one day. – said Marie-Christine Lombard, Managing Director of TNT Express.

In Bulgaria, TNT Express has launched new domestic road connections, thanks to which the company has shortened collection and delivery times for shipments from the south-eastern, central, northern, and north-western regions of the country. For 2007, the launch of further road connections is planned: in northern Bulgaria – so as to ensure the same level of service for customers from the north-eastern part of the country.

In Romania, TNT Express has the largest network of connections in the country. TNT has three international transshipment centers in the cities of: Otopeni, Timisoara, and Cluj-Napoca. The investments are infrastructural in nature and concern the road connection network. TNT has shortened transit times: from two days to one for documents and parcels (in import and export service) between Romania and other EU countries.
