Support for logisticians – ILiM bibliographic services

An interview with Izabela Wielicka, logistics knowledge broker at ILiM

Iwo Nowak: Since April of this year, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing, responding to the demand for knowledge in the field of broadly understood logistics, has introduced a new service – a bibliographic service. Is there really such a need?

Izabela Wielicka: I will answer directly: almost every day, people – especially students – turn to us for help in finding information, materials, and publications necessary, for example, for writing a thesis or needed for preparing other publications, substantive summaries, and analyses. Over its nearly 40-year history, the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing has accumulated vast bibliographic and educational resources. In addition to a well-stocked library, we also maintain a Publication Database, which is the result of ongoing reviews of logistics literature and press from Poland and abroad. Having such a rich educational background, we want to and can help everyone who approaches us.
I.N.: And one does not have to come in person – as was the case with the library in the past – but can use the Internet for this?
I.W.: On the website of the “Logistyka” magazine – in the online shop – you can purchase ready-made bibliographic lists, i.e., lists of literature on topics such as: eco-logistics, urban logistics, logistics outsourcing, RFID, etc. But you can also order a bibliographic list on an individual, self-selected topic.
I.N.: Who most often uses the ILiM bibliographic services?
I.W.: First and foremost, they are used by students, both full-time and part-time, although not exclusively. Sometimes lecturers or people professionally involved in logistics and electronic economy contact us.
I.N.: How can the benefits of the new service for interested parties be described as briefly as possible?
I.W.: The greatest benefit is certainly saving time. There is more and more industry literature. New media, including online ones, are constantly appearing. It is difficult to follow them all to stay up to date. With us, however, for a small fee and in a short time, you can receive the necessary information and tips useful for anyone dealing with logistics issues and e-business.
I.N.: Thank you for the interview.
