VW suppliers – fitting into the value-added chain

Nearly 400 people from 164 companies (approx. 60% from Poland) attended the Volkswagen Poznań supplier conference. Interestingly, only some of these companies had previously cooperated with the Poznań-based enterprise. Most of those present were only hoping to establish a beneficial partnership. The meeting at the trade fair grounds in the capital of Greater Poland was co-organized by the Poznań local government. The management of VW Poznań did not hide the fact that this type of conference is being organized for the first time and has no equivalent on the scale of the entire group.
Volkswagen Poznań, which produces Transporter T5 and Caddy delivery vehicles (owned by the VW Group), cooperates with approx. 1300 parts suppliers from around the world (approx. 889 from Germany). Among them are only 32 companies from Poland (15 from Poznań). Jörn Reimers, President of the Management Board of Volkswagen Poznań, maintained that the goal of such a meeting is to acquire new suppliers, both foreign and Polish. However, he would like almost all components to be manufactured in our country. He pointed out that for a factory operating in the Just-in-Time and Just-in-Sequence system, the location of parts suppliers is of colossal importance. Hence, during the conference, the factory’s needs and the procedures that must be met to become a parts supplier were presented. It was emphasized that today this is no longer just ordinary trade. Now, VW’s procurement services strive to ensure that the parts supplier fits into the value-added chain.
